About

Our story began on Halloween night in 1996, when Lance Pickett returned home from a Halloween party with a band of close friends. Lance found his car completely scrapped along the driver-side, the tires were inflated and axles bent. It was obvious that someone had side-swiped his car. After some investigation, there was a car parked not more than a block away, inside was a drunken party lady drenched in tears admitting that she hit his car.

The drunken lady’s Insurance Company paid Lance a small check for the damage. Instead of spending the money on a body shop to repair his car, Lance decided to fix his ’86 Honda Accord himself and spend the remaining money on a JVC S-VHS camcorder. Lance and his best friend, Joel Asay, took a film class in high school and instantly fell in love with the art, Film.

Using one of the films made in High School, Lance and Joel won the highest award in the 1998 Gallaudet Film Festival, selected first among over 80 other film entries. Lance and Joel founded Camelot Films in 2001 which focused on Wedding and Event videography and editing.

Lance graduated from Utah Valley University in 2006 with a B.S. degree in Multimedia Communications Technology with emphasis in Video and Film Production. After graduation he decided to step up from event videography into the Entertainment industry. Lance founded R.E.M. Films in 2007. Joel Asay continue to operate Camelot Films under its new name, Camelot Studios.

R.E.M. Films’ mission is simply to entertain the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing communities. R.E.M. Films hope to one day become a self-sustaining production house with a steady stream of films that will make you laugh, cry, scream, or cling onto your couch!
